We're now looking at Urban Areas, especially since that's where the bulk of diversity is found in most cities. MSA's are pretty bloated numbers sucking in counties 50 miles away by comparison to an actual urban core.

Southern New England has 1,300,000 black people out of 11,695,000. 11.1%. almost comparable to Pennsylvania.

That’s more black people than Tennessee in half the land area.

More than Mississippi in 1/3rd the land area.

Actually, just Connecticut + Massachusetts has more black people than Mississippi.

Boston MSA has 54,00 foreign born Haitians but not even 10,000 foreign born Jamaicans? How?

Their ratio of Haitian:Jamaican ancestry in the state overall is like 2.1:1. 78,510 Haitians and 36,920 Jamaicans. https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...T1Y2021.B04006

I don’t believe there 6x as many foreign born Haitians based of the people reporting ancestry and just life experience. Could they’re migration/immigration patterns really be THAT different?

But knowing you those numbers would be inflated with "mixed and Hispanic blacks" lol

Again- not inflation Hispanic blacks are still black, Hispanic is not a race. Mixed race blacks are still black. And if it were inflation it would be applicable to every state. And those are the numbers we are using thread wide right now... How else do you think the Hartford UA became 18% black?

I actually asked to see Two or More races separately, but I think ASAB took it to mean included in. But we have other posters that like it this way.

-Hispanic isn't a race, so the Hispanic numbers will be pulled the same.
-The Asian and Black numbers below will include those that are "Asian/Black Alone" and "Asian/Black in Combination".
-The White numbers will only be those that are "White Alone".

The more I go through these numbers, the more I am convinced that the perceived losses of some minority groups from some metro areas is simply a redefining of what it means to be those groups not actually people losses.

Anywhere, here they are.

I have felt this way for a long time. 'Alone' leaves out a lot of people in many cases.

The 2019 1-year had 16,216 in the UA. The 2020 5-year had 14,089. The 2021 1-year had only 8,764.

Pretty massive 1 year drop.

Okay. it just seems bizarre given the ratio in the state in general and the massive drop-off from 2019/2020 but it happens, I guess.

The number I found was a little different. Am I using the right filters/table?
