I'm generally skeptical of the "tech from Austin will spillover into San Antonio" idea. That hasn't even happened all that much from the Bay Area to Sacramento, so why would it happen from Austin to San Antonio?? For the most part I don't think the ingredients that fuel Austin's growth exist in San Antonio. SA has been following a different path and I think that will remain the case. Overall that is probably a good thing; there is no need for SA and Austin to be identical twins.
That was someone else that posted that, I don't see much tech spillover happening besides maybe the occasional startup. SA's tech scene is mostly cybersecurity/biotech/IT. There's just a lot of people moving from Austin to SA, probably somewhat similar to what's happening with the SF Bay - Sacramento.
I think if San Antonio was to get another HQ it would probably be something like Navistar. There seems to be a good amount of automotive mfg stuff here and then you have DeLorean setting up their HQ in town. I think it's good that SA and Austin are different, I wouldn't want to see SA become an Austin clone. I'm all for more white collar jobs here, but I think it's cool to have 2 growing cities within close proximity operating in their own lane.
I could see Tacoma making a case. Yes it's in the same metro area as Seattle, however it holds it's own, has it's own vibe/ culture, been experiencing significant amounts of multifamily construction, has top notch museums, restaurants, art scene, parks, walkable neighborhoods, decent transit... Something to keep an eye on I think.
A few new multifamily development areas. It's adding housing and businesses fast! Also just expanded (almost doubled) it's streetcar line!
What's the reason everyone's so high on Raleigh? Don't get me wrong, it's a nice city and would be a nice place to live, but Charlotte seems like the real "boomtown" of NC to me. Raleigh seemed more like a city ready to move up a tier and growing rapidly (like most sunbelt cities) but I never got a "boomtown" vibe from it.

Raleigh is much stronger than these other cities economically with a highly educated workforce. That's the main difference. (Except for maybe SLC which is similar on that front but has some other dynamics going on being in Utah).

Education for sure, I think it wins out of this group hands down in that category, but what ways is the economy stronger? GDP is pretty far behind Tampa, San Antonio and even a bit behind SLC. RDU has 2 F500 companies (unless I'm missing something) vs 5 in Tampa Bay and I guess there's 3 in SA now after buyouts and iHeart falling out of the ranking.

In reality you can't separate Raleigh from Durham so looking at Raleigh's GDP alone is misleading.
