I thought of this because of the California vs Florida threads. But what about the whole regions instead. It seems obvious that florida beats california in this becuse, while california has very few native wild palms of only 1 species, Washingtonia Filfera, Florida has many more species native including Sabal palms, Royal palms, Saw palmetto, Buccaneer palms, key thatch palms, needle palms, and some naturalized coconuts in the southern part of the state. as for non natives, many have said there are more palm species in farchild botanical garden in homestead then the entire state of California and this is probably true. However, California wins at height due to lightning being rare in that state while Florida is the lightning capital of the world. but instead of the old argument on just florida vs California lets try this one. The state of california vs the states of south carolina, georgia, florida, louisiana, mississippi, alabama, and coastal parts of texas on the gulf. here comes the fun!!
California wins. It always wins. Which state has the least lightning? California wins. Which state is less palms in a botanical garden? California wins. I have no idea what this thread is about.

Clearly Florida has a far greater variety of palms than does California. It's just a shame that Florida lacks the astonishing landscapes that California does upon which to place them.

Nobody gets everything. We should all appreciate what we have.
The Canary island date palm in California is iconic and majestic. These are the palms that line Beverly dr in Beverly Hills. Nothing in FL can compare.
