They definitely don't look exactly like each other. Just look at Columbia ... many more pines and palms than Charlotte, which is just 1 1/4 hrs north.

that is because Columbia is the sandhills more similar to Raleigh, Pinehurst / Southern Pines area.

No a lot of palms in Columbia, those aren't natural to Columbia.

Regardless, Greenville area is closer to the mountain part of NC than most NC cities are.

Columbia and Raleigh both have TONS of pine trees, as opposed to areas like Greensboro or Greenville where you don't see as many.

raleigh downtown is pretty bland. i know several people who moved to Greenville from Raleigh.

Wilmington and Souther Pines / Pine Hurst are only downtown areas I lke in NC. Asheville's is disappointing.
They don't look exactly alike; the mountains and the Piedmont constitute much more of the land mass of NC than SC and that makes a difference.

You should check out Lake Fontana then.

Or Lake Santeelah.

Actually just look on a map. Western NC is loaded with pretty lakes.

those are both small compared to Jocasse and Keowee, plus far from any of the metroes with any jobs in NC. Greenville is closest city with jobs in the Carolinas to those NC mountain lakes. Jocassee and Keowee and Hartwell are only 45 min to 1 hour away.

Thats what make NC unique, its divided into 3 regions. Mountains, beach, and city life in the Piedmont region. Also the Sandhills region, which is highly known for hosting prestigous golf tournaments.

Yes SC does as well, but the other states I mentioned have a good bit of coverage for each region, whereas SC is mainly coastal plain and Piedmont.
