In the face of a global recession, I'm not sure if you can say that any city truly had a success story; rather, it's more like which city did the best job at damage control. With that in mind, I couldn't pick a city; I'd have to pick a state instead. And that state would be Texas.

Makes you wonder that the idiot who let things get so out of control was also from Texas.

Based on your criteria, I would have to say that none of them have had a success in this annus horribilis.
Oh, wait...Washington, DC; still going strong thanks to our bloated and ever-expanding federal bureaucracy.

hmm yeah george bush caused all this....and by spending billions of dollars that are great grand children will have to repay were bringing it back but OH WAIT! when all those companies stop getting YOUR money guess what? they will crash again! oh and btw texas was the only state that had its economy grow during the recession and the census bereau has confirmed that texas grew by the most people between 2000 and 2009 4 million an increase of 20%. AND YOU KNOW WHY?! because texas has everything that the us needs thats why it will never suffer much from a recession. it has the most fortune 500 companies for any state if it wasnt part of the us i wonder how things would of turned out.

Can we avoid the political ruckus guys? There's nowhere for this to go but down if we start down this path.

On topic: As a state, Texas seems to have held up very well.

The Northeast seems to have held up pretty well too, even though finance is their major industry. Some of the Southwestern metros seems to have had a tough time in terms of real-estate.

I think Austin did good. The city, metro, economy, and skyline grew. I guess being the capital of Texas is awesome.
