Wow. This is one tough question as I have been trying to figure out this for a while.

Option 1:
Tampa/Orlando. It's not toooooo far from home (Pensacola, FL which is 8-9 hours away) Warm weather, no state income tax, no vehicle inspections. It's a beautiful area with a lot to do (attractions)

Option 2:
Atlanta. It's close to home (less than 6 hours away) and there is plenty to do. Beautiful weather... leaves change color, snow once in a while, mild summers (compared to Florida) Atlanta also has a fairly large IT job market when compared to other cities in the south.

I'd add Raleigh into the list, but it's really too far from where I want to be from Family/Home. I'd like to live in a place where I could come home on the weekends if I wanted to. If I lived in Atlanta and I got off work on Friday at 5 PM, I could be in Pensacola that night and I would be home for all of Saturday and most of Sunday. Flight from Atlanta to Pensacola is cheap, and is less than an hour long.

If you are talking about appealing places I've never been to, I'd like to try Idaho, some non-tourist town with a population between 10,000 - 30,000.

I'd have to do a ton of research, visit and stay for a few weeks before making up my mind. I'd also have to kiss off ever seeing anybody I know, ever again.

The key word is Couer de lane....a place worth retiring to . Great scenic beauty , bar nun. Good restaurants, try Wolf creek lodge for best wood open flame steaks anywhere, medical is top notch , shopping , got it all.

Where I have lived:

1. Madison, WI
2. San Francisco
3. San Pablo Ridge/Richmond, CA
4. West Los Angeles
5. Northridge, CA
6. Chatsworth, CA
7. Salt Lake City, UT
8. Sandy, UT

Where I'd want three houses?

1. Madison. It's just home.
2. Anyhwere on Maui (Lahaina) or Kauai, HI - been there many, many times
3. A ski lodge anywhere in the Rocky Mountains.
