Philadelphia has the Boyd Theater, which looks to be preserved and soon turned into a "living" theater again, in addition to a Kimpton Hotel space above/next to it:
Haha, he doesn't seem to like it too much. I can agree with a couple of his criticisms though...the sunken plaza is probably going to be terrible. The skin of the building is very ambitious though...I think it looks cool.
I also agree with the call that the Arts District looks like "screaming babies crying out for attention". The buildings individually look good, but together it looks like they're trying to out-do one another and it doesn't seem to have any form of community.
The ones in the U district show independent films, except when a surefire blockbuster that isn't crap comes out (like Avatar). Most of them were built before 1940.
