Dallas has the Majestic in its downtown:

And the brand-spanking new AT&T Performing Arts Center, with the Winspear Opera House:

And this art theater right across from it, which I call the Borg Cube (aka Wyly Theater):

Philadelphia has the Boyd Theater, which looks to be preserved and soon turned into a "living" theater again, in addition to a Kimpton Hotel space above/next to it:

Kimmel Center:

The new Suzanne Roberts Theater, down the Ave of the Arts from the previous two venues above:

The Torcadero:

inside of the Troc:

and just outside of "downtown"/Center City is World Cafe Live, across the river in University City:

well, the top one is only a conceptional drawing at this point (thanks to recession), but the Borg Cube is very real. lol

For a critique from an architect/urban planner type:

LIVING CAR-FREE IN BIG D: Welcome to "ToonTown" - The Dallas Arts District
Haha, he doesn't seem to like it too much. I can agree with a couple of his criticisms though...the sunken plaza is probably going to be terrible. The skin of the building is very ambitious though...I think it looks cool.

I also agree with the call that the Arts District looks like "screaming babies crying out for attention". The buildings individually look good, but together it looks like they're trying to out-do one another and it doesn't seem to have any form of community.

Seattle has some cool retro and historic movie theaters:

Landmark - Seattle

The ones in the U district show independent films, except when a surefire blockbuster that isn't crap comes out (like Avatar). Most of them were built before 1940.
