Minneapolis (2000 Census)
White 62.7
Black or African American 17.6
Hispanic or Latino (of any race) 7.6
Asian 6.3
Some other race 4.2
American Indian and Alaska Native 2.0
Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander 0.1
The numbers I got are from the new census estimates (2005-2007), the "other" is also a sum of all the others added together.
Oh, and also I made another mistake by putting Oklahoma City, OK on that list when it's technically Southern as well (I mixed up Oklahoma with a Midwest state). Wichita will now make it on the list then.
Updated:
Chicago-38% white, 35% black, 5% Asian, 23% other. 28% Hispanic (of any race)
Detroit-10% white, 83% black, 1% Asian, 6% other. 6% Hispanic (of any race)
Indianapolis-66% white, 26% black, 2% Asian, 6% other. 7% Hispanic (of any race)
Columbus-66% white, 26% black, 4% Asian, 4% other. 4% Hispanic (of any race)
Milwaukee-45% white, 39% black, 3% Asian, 13% other. 15% Hispanic (of any race)
Kansas City-63% white, 29% black, 2% Asian, 8% other. 9% Hispanic (of any race)
Omaha-77% white, 13% black, 2% Asian, 8% other. 11% Hispanic (of any race)
Cleveland-39% white, 53% black, 2% Asian, 6% other. 8% Hispanic (of any race)
Minneapolis-68% white, 18% black, 5% Asian, 9% other. 10% Hispanic (of any race)
Wichita-73% white, 11% black, 5% Asian, 11% other. 12% Hispanic (of any race)
Here are some interesting numbers from the 2000 Census: Foreign Born Population
Chicago - 628,903
Minneapolis - St. Paul - 96,613
Columbus - 47,713
Milwaukee - 46,122
Detroit - 45,541
Indianpolis - 36,067
Wichita - 27,938
Omaha - 25,687
Tulsa - 25,665
Kansas City - 25,632
Cleveland - 21,372
Grand Rapids - 20,814
St. Louis - 19,542
Des Moines - 15,713
Cincinnati - 12,461
Again, Tulsa is not the Midwest...it is a Southern city with southwestern influence.
What isn't shown in these stats are the outlying areas of the city. Cuyahoga County where Cleveland is located within, has a higher percentage of foreign born.
I was thinking this thread is about central cities; not metro areas. The numbers would obviously be higher if we were talking metropolitan areas.

I find it hard to believe that Minneapolis has a higher percentage of whites now than it did back in 2000, especially considering minorities have been the reason for the city's growth since 1990 (i.e. Hispanics, Asians, African, Asian Indian, etc...). And no, I don't buy into estimates being the Census Bureau has underestimated almost every midwestern city with its yearly population estimates. It's well known the yearly estimates were off with Chicago, Minneapolis, Kansas City, St. Louis, etc. during the 90s.
besides chicago, It would have to be milwaukee. Or maybe the twin cities.
the main reason that milwaukee is as diverse as it is is because of chicago. Milwaukee has the second largest hispanic population in the mid west, because of its proximity to chicago. its hispanic population is more diverse than any other city in the midwest except chicago. It has the largest puerto rican population west of the east coast besides chicago. Many of these puerto ricans came from lorain, where someone mentioned has a large boricua population. And there are large numbers of alot of other ethnic groups such as serbians, russians, jews, hmong, vietnamese, mexicans. Milwaukee has the third largest amount of blacks in the midwest as well. Historically milwaukee has been the most german and polish city in the nation as well.

What's so hard to believe? The Twin Cities have become ground zero for yuppies in the Midwest.

First of all, estimates from American Community Survey are being used. Their numbers aren't even close to the estimates released by the Metropolitan Council or the Census Bureau. As far as yuppies are concerned; yes, there are concentrations of yuppies in both Minneapolis and St. Paul, but it's well known in the TC area that immigrants are the main reason for population growth and/or stability in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and in some of their inner-ring suburbs. I'm thinking Minneapolis will experience the same trend from 2000 to 2010 (not as drastic though) as it did from 1990 to 2000 in the percentage of whites. Unfortunately, white flight hasn't completely stopped.
Minneapolis
1990
White alone, not Hispanic - 77.5%
2000
White alone, not Hispanic - 62.7%
St. Paul
1990
White alone, not Hispanic - 80.8%
2000
White alone, not Hispanic - 64.1%
I'm not sure how accurate those census estimates are, because again they are "estimates".
I could possibly see a city like Minneapolis becoming more white. There has been a new trend of whites moving back into the central cities, and there is more yuppies moving into Minneapolis.
Anyways here's another very diverse city in the Midwest:
East Chicago-37% white, 36% black, 0% Asian, 27% other. 52% Hispanic (of any race) (Census 2000).
