Likewise, I never got the impression that Dallas was an "international city" It's a Southern and Evangelical city and that's a fact whether you choose to acknowledge that. I know you want to think it's on the west coast but the reality is Dallas is less than 200 miles from the Oklahoma and Arkansas border. It has 1.5 million more people than Phoenix so it wouldn't strike my why it has more minorities but that doesn't make it an international city. There are large churches on every corner and the Evangelical culture is strong there which takes away from any liberal and tolerant society that embraces diversity. I think you are contriving Dallas and making it appear the way you want it to appear because you probably moved there for work like many people in this economy.
Uh, no it's not a fact, get over yourself. Your sweeping generalizations are getting quite annoying and tiresome. I'm a gay male, definitely far from conservative and don't experience any of this evangelical culture with churches all over the place that you keep harpin on.
Culturally speaking, Dallas is what it is...a Southern Evangelical city regardless of it's economic impact. I know people in Dallas are trying to avoid that label. What's funny is Atlanta embraces its Southern roots but Dallas doesn't. I don't know why Dallas residents are so ashamed of it. They can't change who they are. It's a part of their identity and will always be the case.
Were you the one who was chiding people earlier for "living in the past"? It ain't the 1940's anymore. If I really feel up to it, which I'm sure I won't, I'll go find that post. but really this has been pages and pages of bickering. I don't think I have the wherewithal.

I'm pretty sure Dallas is located in the South and has quite a significant Evangelical presence, so I'm not quite sure why you believe that to be a sweeping generalization. It is true that Dallas has a large gay community and Dallas has definitely changed since I've lived there (for the better). However, just because you are gay, far from conservative, and do not experience the Evangelical culture does not mean that others do not experience it and that it doesn't exist (just trying to be logical).

You might want to read up on the religion of Dallas before you keep criticizing it.

I'm not referring to just the evangelical part. I'm referring to a large portion of what Azriverfan has said about Dallas. I know the city pretty well as I know a lot of the metroplex pretty well.
You keep referring to the population as conservative and evangelical as if it's bad. Dallas overall is not conservative;
What are you talking about?? I've made TWO posts in this thread which stated my opinions of Dallas and Texas in general. In one of them I stated my fondness for Texas cities and the fact that they are gay-friendly, although I believe the West is more laid-back and more gay-friendly. The other stated that I believe Dallas IS in the South and has a significant Evangelical presence. Where did I keep referring to the population as conservative and Evangelical as bad? Get your eyes checked.
