To be honest I really don't hear Chicago too much in the news...so maybe replace that with DC, so it would be NYC/LA/DC. Also to be honest Atlanta is almost NEVER mentioned out here in California, not really on our radar out here. Then for 4th I would probably say SF Bay Area because major internet companies such as Google, Yahoo, Ebay, Twitter (I think, not sure) reside there and are always in the news. Also Stanford and Berkeley seem to get noticed by the media a lot. Also tons of t.v shows have been based SF.
DC has way more media outlets than Atlanta. NPR, CSPAN, Radio Free Asia, CBS, NBC, CNN, FOX, ABC, BET, Telemundo, BBC, Russian National TV, Israeli TV, ESPN (Pardon the Interruption), etc....
You mentioned CNN,but CNN in are headquartered and broadcast out of Atlanta as well.FAUX(i mean FOX)is has regional broadcast also in all 4 regions. In the South ,its headquartered in Atlanta. All these are "bureaus",not headquarters.I mean it still counts, but how does that compare to having headquarters and production facilities. The question is not just about Visual media. Its also about music and audio production, among other types as well.
Yeah but most of its media seems to come out of New York and Atlanta.
People keep mentioning DC, but how often do we really hear about that city when it's not pertaining to politics?
New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Atlanta have television dramas, sitcoms, films, etc. that are based around the cities themselves and their neighborhoods.

San Francisco isn't as big as it use to be; same with Chicago.
Can someone explain what media is in Chicago that is relevant to the rest of the country and world? The only thing I can think of is Oprah.
I guess my ranking would go something like this:
1. L.A.
2. NYC
3. Washington D.C.
4. Atlanta
5. Miami
6. the rest in no particular order that matters
