The military is too spread out to single out a single metro as being invaluable. No one has mentioned the Seattle area yet, which has the third largest collection of nuclear warheads in the country at the Kitsap Naval Base where all of the Trident submarine missiles are stored.

Jacksonville,Florida has Mayport Naval Station and Naval Air Station(NAS),also there is a submarine base north of JAX in Kings Bay,Georgia.

Washington DC is obvious. After reading this thread, from a strategic point of view militarily, I would also agree with Norfolk, San Diego, San Antonio, Jacksonville, Colorado Springs (NORAD), and if Seattle has all those nukes, they belong there as well. A great case was made for El Paso as well.

I agree about NYC being overall the most important city/metro in a general sense, but I have yet to see how in a foreign invasion/stategic/war capability, what would make them one of the most important. If someone could elaborate for me on that one?
