Atlanta - Atlanta metropolitan area - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dallas - Dallas

Houston - Greater Houston - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Miami - South Florida metropolitan area - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

NOTE: Population should not decide what is more important.
Which Metro area do you think is the most important to the south? Meaning if you take it away, it is almost like you snatch a major artery from someone's heart.

I have to say Miami or Atlanta. The media attention both cities get is ridiculous.
Airport size, overall economic importance, as well as NAtion wide representatives for their respective states.

So mine

Most Important
1. Miami
2. Atlanta
3. Houston
4. Dallas

Houston, this city has the biggest GDP of the South, and its future is very bright because the Texas Medical Center becomes the Silicon Valley of Health.

It matters what you mean by important. What is important to you? fashion, shopping, nightlife? Thats Miami all the way. Job security, bang for your buck, strong economy? Thats where Houston and Dallas excel. Do you want to live in a city right smack dab in the middle of the south but still have big city amenities? Then you would like Atlanta.

Tough call - to me it's the region where is it even debatable

I think Atl/Dal/Hou all can make a case but none really differentiates significantly

Miami just seems to much the playground

Medical is not the only factor that being said throw Orlando in for No.2 with the new Lake Nona Medical Center. What are you saying? Take Texas Medical Center away from Houston then what?

I think this thread has been made quite a lot before.

They are all important in different ways.

Miami- Because of it's tourist appeals, shopping, night life, beaches, scenery, and lifestyle (the more laid back). Cruise line port, international businesses from Latin American countries/Caribbean countries.

Houston- Because of the Port of Houston, which is the 2nd largest port in the country in total overall tonnage. IAH is an expanding airport, it's also the fastest growing airport in America. The economy is also good, and it's expanding in other sectors.

Dallas- This city has a very diverse economy, it's also a great airport facility, and has plenty of room to expand without worries. Finance, telecommunications, IT, and other sectors are expanding rapidly. Banking also has a large presence here

Atlanta- Pretty diverse economy, good media outlet, and is a good attraction for northeast migrants. Atlanta also has a good night life and has a good location, the worlds busiest airport, and other sectors.

All the cities are different but equal in their own ways. No competition, the South does not have any one city that stands alone above the other three.
