At least you noticed it, I probably would have gone along and never noticed it if I did that. Then everybody would have thought I lived in a real slimehole. LOL

Neighborhood-1

City (Knoxville)-3

County (Knox)-3

Metro-2

State-7

It doesn't seem dangerous here on the surface. People are so nice and laid back. But they'll also rob you blind. Even in the country, plenty meth/pill heads who can't be trusted.

Chicago

City (Chicago) - I'm going to split this up...North Side is about a 3 - 3.5 (only for a few areas).. South and West Sides overall is about a 6.5 or 7 (There are areas in each that I would easily rate a 1-2.5 though).
Neighborhood (Gold Coast) - 2.5
County (Cook County) - 4.5 (There are some dangerous areas outside Chicago but not too many)
Metro (Chicago MSA) - 4
State (Illinois) - 2.5

neighborhood safety - 1.5 (as long as you don't challenge one of my neighbors about the judicial issues discussed during the Sotomayor confirmation hearings - they have transcripts and aren't afraid to reference them)

city - 5, we still have a ways to go, but we have to lead the nation in gentrification, and our homicide rate is falling dramatically

Neighborhood: 1 - We've never locked our doors.

City: 1 - The city is just a handful of neighborhoods, and one is about as safe as the next.

County: 1 - We don't have counties, but the next couple of towns up the road are pretty quiet - I'd feel fairly comfortable hitchhiking anywhere out here.

Metro: We don't have a metro area

State: 3 - I'm just taking a stab at it here. For the most part crime in this state seems to be highly related to alcohol abuse, and is avoidable to a large extent. But it is still present in certain places.
