This topic came up in another thread and it got me thinking:

What city in Texas do you think people think of when they think of Texas? Why do you think so?

Im trying to take a scientific approach to this as well. My hypothisis is that Houston is more well known among African-Americans and in the Southeast, whereas Dallas is more well known in the Midwest and overall. Being from the West Coast, I always heard Dallas as the city mentioned as well.

It would be helpful to establish where each poster is from too since I think the answer to the question will be impacted on where youre from.

Notice the thread title isnt which city do you like better or why do you hate Texas cities. Im just interested as to what city you think people think of Texas.

IMO Dallas. I think most people around the world see it as the embodiment of contemporary Texas.
Of course, the TV show was huge around the world as well.

When I think of Texas, I think about the Cowboys, so Dallas gets my vote.

I'm an African American male that lives in the Southeast. However, I grew up in California when I was younger. We used to drive almost every summer from California to Mississippi when I was a kid, and guess what the biggest city on our route was? Dallas.

The Cowboys were winning Super Bowl championships when I was a kid in the 90's, so that sort of added to the "legend" of Dallas to me.

I wasn't too familiar with Houston up until about 10-15 years ago.

see here's my thing

i can already see that the "dallas cowboy" answer is going to be a pretty common reply. but recognizing the name of an nfl team is not "knowing" a city. especially since the cowboys are a much more established team than the texans

the question at hand is which city could most people tell you more about. and driving thru or visiting a city doesn't count either. for example, memphis is the only city i've been to in tennessee, but i know way more about nashville

No.

Not about "which one you know about the most."

My mama used to tell me "You think too much!" when I started over analyzing things and looking for meanings that aren't necessarily there.
