They made a good impression too. A lot of sports pundits in Chicago were giving Indy their due props for holding it down and being a great host. Even Jim Rome out in LA was giving Indy props.

I'm inclined to go with Birmingham AL. Parts of it leave a lot to be desired, but it has a really nice botanical garden (and it's free for the public) and some really quaint suburbs (Vestavia Hills, Homewood, Mountain Brook). Shelby County is a much wealthier place than Jefferson County (where B-ham proper is at) and has some quality suburbs and school systems as well. It's easy to see the Southern heritage in many parts of the metro (especially the older places... and they're surprisingly well-kept for the most part).

Baltimore has to be one of the most underrated cities, and I also agree with most of the Rust Belt selections as well.

I would go with Houston. They're a huge city, but mainly people talk about their economy and economic power. But the amenities in Houston are really overlooked. Houston's theatre district is one of the few in the USA that have permanent companies in opera, symphony, ballet, orchestra and theatre. Plus, the Ensemble Theatre is the largest African-American theatre company in the country!

There's a lot of good things going on in Houston and it was located on the west coast or up north it would get a lot more credit as being a viable, entertainment city than it gets.

Houston is pretty much the inverse of underrated, especially on this forum! Even nationally, Houston is the darling of this country right now. How could you say it is underrated?? Who DOESN'T know about Houston's rise in status lately?

Pittsburgh is the most underrated US city, at least on this website. I'd rank Pittsburgh among the top 4 US cities.

Are you sure that you're not thinking about Austin?

Houston gets bashed all the time. The only things people give it credit for are its economy and low cost of living.
