Which state is known for the best kayaking? Keep in mind not all kayaking is whitewater. Some is touring designed for slower waters. I thought about making this a poll but the more I thought about it the more I realized virtually every state has areas the you can kayaking. So if you kayak regularly, tell me what areas of your state are great and why. thanks.

I would guess any northeastern state. NY is abundant with lakes, ponds, creeks, rivers and estuaries .

Wappingers Creek through Dutchess County is the worth a trip for anyone interested in a good semi-challenging experience.

When I lived in Florida there are endless waterways leading out to the gulf and Atlantic. Although you have to be careful or you'll end up lost and spending a night with the gators and mosquitos. It lacks options of whitewater. Northwest Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma are some hidden gems for kayaking.

Florida is great for kayaking. We have every kind of body of water here. Thousands of miles of coastline, both fresh and salt water.

Maryland has lots of options for kayaking. There is whitewater rafting in western MD, tamer rivers and streams in the central part of the state, fresh water marshes in the Chesapeake Bay areas, and salt water marshes on the Atlantic coast.

I don't kayak, but for variety, I would think WV should rank pretty high.

I would think Oregon, Colorado, Arizona, West Virginia, California, Washington, Idaho and Hawaii would be great options.

Washington State is great for sea kayaking around the San Juan Islands...There is also some rivers in the Cascades where whitewater kayaking is an option along with some other lakes in the foothills for flat water kayaking.

For a non-coastal state, Idaho would be the winner by far.
The state has the most miles of whitewater rivers in the entire continental USA, and the largest concentration of freshwater/natural lakes of any state in the West.
