My wife's family is in the cleveland area and we are thinking about moving there. Coming from Georgia we know all to well about bad public schools. With 2 little girls I would like to know in the greater cleveland area where the best public schools are - Everybody has been telling me the rocky river and avon have great schools but I dont see where the rankings are nationally for those school districts. Any help?

Moderator cut: links removed, please read our terms of service There are a lot of good schools around Cleveland. Just to name a few near me: West Geauga, Kirtland, Kenston, Chagrin Falls. All of those (including avon and rocky river) score 9 or higher on greatschools and are in the top 50 districts in the state out of over 700.

I'm not sure why the links were removed as I have no affiliation with those sites I posted. I guess they're just anal about advertising here, even when it's obvious the site isn't selling anything. Just do a search for ohio school rankings and you'll find the same stuff I did.

I can e-mail you a spreadsheet from the State of Ohio Department of Education, by county, by offiical ranking (Excellent with Distinction, Excellent, etc.) Just contact me. Common question. Easy objective answer. Tons of data from test scores, etc.

Bottom line: Any suburban school district in the Cleveland area will provide your children an EXCELLENT education. Period. Really. There isn't a BAD one in the bunch.
Are some better then others? Marginally. But as many of us often say here: good parent + decent school district = well educated child.
Exception = East Cleveland... I don't think any can recommend that district.

Rocky River and Avon Lake are both rated as "Excellent with Distinction" which is Ohio's highest possible rating.

That's really all you need to know.

Basically. But I'd avoid Euclid and some of the other inner ring suburbs. Generally speaking, most parts of Lake, Geauga, Lorain, Medina, and Summit(Akron suburbs and some districts inside the Akron proper) have good public schools.

Lorain has a couple good schools, Avon Lake, Avon, and Amherst. The westside of Cleveland has the best in Cuyahoga County with 7 cities receiving Excellent with Distinction.
