I currently am living in Lakewood, however in October I will be moving to West Park with my boyfriend. We've been talking to a guy who is remodeling a home in the W.140th/Puritas/Lorain area. Everything sounds great so far, we will actually have a chance to look at the place in August.

I am not entirely familiar with West Park, and was wondering if anyone could tell me how that particular area is? Is it shady, or is it pretty decent. We don't have kids, so that isn't a worry for us, but I do want to feel comfortable in my surroundings.

Any input would be fantastic! Thanks!

West Park is nice. Every city has it's shady sections.
Depending on where you live in LKWD; east or west end...
I would compare some of the east end of LKWD to West Park, IMO.

Certain sections of Puritas, have become more shady.
So we're all on the same page...I'm assuming by shady...you mean crime, etc?

West Park is affectionately nicknamed "copland"...many Cleveland police officers and firefighters live in the area. More so, off Triskett/Lorain area.

If it were me looking in West Park...I'd look in the Triskett/Kamms corner area and north of Lorain on Rocky River Drive.

Thanks for the input. And yes, by "shady" I mean areas that are run down, unsafe, etc. Currently I live off Warren, right by 90, so I am familiar with Kamm's and Triskett, but the house that we're looking at is more in the 140th-Puritas-Lorain area.

I recently read an article in Scene about the City's requirement for firefighters, police, etc to reside in Cleveland proper, which I think has helped make that particular section of Cleveland feel a little more suburban and a little less urban.

Once again, thank you for your advice and input!

Ok, Warren...I grew up on Onondaga...just east of Warren off Madison...that was many moons ago...lol...I know the area well.

I would suggest maybe taking a drive around the neighborhood.
Observe everything you can..scope out different things...neighbors houses...are they kept up...is it quiet etc..
I even look to see who else has dogs...as I have two...these are things I would like to know before considering an area.

I've even taken a drive to an area of interest...parked my car at a store or whatever and just took my dog for a walk...scope stuff out....sometimes you can get a better feel for the area when on foot.
You can *hear* and *see* more...

Of course, that's if you have time to do it...but it's almost worth it to take the time to do. I might also add, take someone with you if you don't have a dog..

Oh good idea!

I thought about the driving around, but I really like your idea about walking around on foot. If I feel comfortable doing that, then I think I'll be fine!

Thanks again!

Robin, I now live in Colorado but did live off of 140th and puritas in West park from about 98 to 03. As previously said, some areas are nice. I lived on Sherry Ave and it was quiet and relatively crime free, however if you drove 2 minutes in either direction it got pretty bad. I happened to be back home in Feb of this year and took a ride over there. It didnt look as good as it once did to be honest but that happens with time. Good luck to ya..
