From Bloomberg Business week:

Cities with the Biggest Growth in Tech Jobs: Hunting for Talent - BusinessWeek

Quote:
No. 1 Cleveland

Growth: 107 percent
Companies hiring: IBM, Deloitte & Touche
Skills needed: Systems integration, software engineering, project management

Hiring is strong in this region with 68 percent of companies expecting to add staff in the coming year, according to a recently completed survey by the Northeast Ohio Software Assn.

But wait! Isn't the city dead with no hope at all

There are some questions with the list. Cleveland went up 107%, but it doesn't give much in the way of hard numbers, only a percentage. It doesn't say where these cities started out from or what has caused the growth. Could it just be a faster return to pre-recession jobs or a sign of real economic growth? Even if it's just a return to pre-recession levels, it's good news, but may only indicate that tech jobs were very low to begin with. The article is very light to say the least.

Well, anyone who lives here knows that nobody reports anything positive about Cleveland that likely isn't true. If it's negative, it will be processed and spun into the worst thing possible and will always, always, always be reported.

I could reinforce their findings by adding that the large firm that I work for is adding jobs in most, if not all of the technical sectors.

My company is hiring Tech jobs too...we can't find enough quality people. We're looking to hire at least 5 within the next 6 months, or we're going to struggle to push forward.

Yep, it's the new reality. So many in the US (and globally) are underqualified for what the current jobs demand. The IEEE estimated a few years back that close to 650,000 jobs went unfilled because of the lack of quality candidates.

Couldn't agree more.

Awesome news.

When companies have a hard time filling jobs locally, they begin importing people. I know many tech people that left Cleveland for greener pastures.

I know a few who did also, except the pastures weren't as green as they thought they would be...

The problem with importing people is that they must be available for export from elsewhere. As the demand for these people grows, there are less and less available.

Yeah, let's face it, technology touches virtually every aspect of our lives. And, unless the bottom falls out of the ship, its grip will only increase.
