In 1993, Goldsboro was considered to be one of the top 10 places to live in the US.
I am scratching my head and trying to figure out how a town like Goldsboro would even pique the interest of the staff at Money Magazine.
Crime is high, there is nothing to do there, and the area seems rather "backwards." The job market is also horrible and I'm sure in 1993 it wasn't much better.
Goldsboro is not in the coastal area. It actually the edge of the Triangle. speaking economically not geographically. It is part of the Raleigh television market.

I think that's recognized as Wilson, though Goldsboro being so close, does have some swell establishments. Speaking of which, anybody traveling US 70 Thurs-Fri should make it a point to stop at Adam's Roadside BBQ. It's just west of Goldsboro between the Rosewood Walmart and the Wayne/Johnston County line. They have great brisket as well.

Goldsboro was a pretty nice small town to live in back in 1993. The problem now is that it still looks like it did in 1993.
Goldsboro, Kinston, Wilson, and Rocky Mount all look mostly the same as they did back then. Barely any population growth.
Greenville has progressed thanks to ECU and Jacksonville stands out because of Camp Lejeune.
