I am considering a job opportunity at camp Lejeune. Can anyone tell me about what areas are commutable to Lejeune and which areas are least transient? If we pursue this, we would be there for awhile. Possibly permanent. My wife and i both love the beach. We'd love to be so close to it. I'm from Virginia and she's from Ohio. We like the country/slower pace and the fact that it's less than an hour from Wilmington.
Swansboro is closer to the beach, but a little further form Lejeune. Jacksonville is closer to Lejeune, but further from the beach. Swansboro is smaller and more charming. Jacksonville has more amenities.
Yes, I'd say its very family friendly. However, the true beach communities N. Topsail and emerald Isle) are very seasonal and will have few full time residents and will empty out in the winter, so if you're expecting lots of friends for your children that may be an issue.
