The flooding during Florence you saw on TV were, naturally, the flooded houses/businesses!

As you have been advised check the flood maps. Don’t take a realtor’s word for that, either.

We are 2 blocks from the Neuse River. Many houses north of us, on very low ground, flooded. The extreme north east corner of our lot dips down. Eight to ten square feet at that corner are on the border of the catastrophic flood zone. Can’t remember the specific name. During Florence the debris line (high water) was almost exactly along that line. Just a little short. The lady across the street, nearer the river, never even lost power!

Again, pay attention to the elevation of the home and you will be fine.
Thank you for your information! That is what I worry about the most the flooding. I am used to hurricanes and bad weather in NJ; Just don't want our house to wash away with the first storm!
Thank you again
