Can anyone recommend any pet-friendly hotels in the general area from Emerald Isle to Beaufort? We'd prefer to be directly on the beach or sound if possible. Thanks!

I can remember finding a couple in Morehead City for clients, but I have forgotten the names.
I do know that the Parkerton Inn (http://www.parkertoninn.com/index.html - broken link) in Cape Carteret is dog friendly.
There's the cool little Atlantis Lodge in Salter Path on the beach...we stayed there when we first moved to NC--our dog, Mr. Regal, gives it fours paws up rating...there used to be a nifty dog-friendly B&B in Beaufort, but they got out of the biz last year...I'll check around to see if I come up with anything else for you...there are plenty of dog sitters and a couple of pet motels around (Bed & Biscuits) for only dogs...

could i also ask you one more question, specifically about the atlantis...we went by and checked it out last time we were down, and i liked it a lot, but i was concerned that it might be noisy. a lot of our vacation will be sleep time, and it seemed like the buildings might not be that well insulated. but it is ocean-side, so i figured construction ould be pretty sturdy. any opinion on this?
Wish I could help you out on the noise level, but when we stayed there, it was in Feb. and was pretty darn quiet. Summertime? Any place on the beach is likely to be pretty lively then. Maybe you could get a place on the top floor? No one above you often means more quiet...
What kind of doggie do you have? Does he/she love the beach? Now our dog likes walking on the beach, but hates to get his feet wet..go figure...
i have a shih tzu, 12 years old, and he LOVES the beach and has since he was a baby.
when i first took him down when he was a puppy, he ran right straight out into the ocean, and when those salty waves hit him in the face, he hightailed it right back out, and dug his face into the sand. he was one filthy dog! it was so funny! since then, he's never wanted to go back into the water... but he still loves to walk on the beach and sit and feel the breeze on his face.
he's older now and has arthritis and a bad back, and if i'm remembering right the altantis only has stairs, so we'd be stuck with a first floor there with people above us. i actually loved the hotel when we looked at it before, especially the ocean views, but it just seemed like it might be loud if you had somebody above you.
what about you? what kind of dog is Mr. Regal?
(oh, and the b&b in beaufort that you mentioned, was that the red dog inn?)
Hi, to answer your question, yes the Red Dog Inn in Beaufort. We stayed there 1 1/2 yrs. ago with our Samoyed. Beautiful Inn was run by Molly Wood. They closed the main house, but opened up the cottage in the back, and it is dog friendly. They have the neatest dog bar a couple of blocks away, The BackStreet Bar, that allows dogs in there to socialize. That is a fun time.
Ah, your doggie sounds so sweet. Dogs love those sea breezes--so many interesting scents come wafting their way...
Mr. Regal's also 12. He's a whippet/jack russell mix..picture a whippet type body, long legs and a tucked-up tummy and put a jack russell head on it...that's our Mr. Regal.
Kind of an odd looking dog, everyone always asks "What kind of dog is that?" because they recognize the various parts but not the whole dog...sometimes we we say he's a North Carolina Racing Chow Hound...some people actually believe me...
He hates getting dirty, he skirts puddles and keeps himself immaculate. Sometimes we feel unkempt in comparison to Mr. Regal..he sets the bar high...
Boy, if you could get into the Red Dog Inn cottage, that would be very cool...Beaufort is such a sweet little town....
