As far as proximity to shopping, mall, downtown, etc., you could live anywhere in Wilmington and get to those places in no less than 20 minutes. Schools are tricky because it depends what part of town you live in; I would avoid downtown because some streets are a little dangerous and you won't get much property at all. Avoiding neighborhoods is also tricky because a good majority of Wil. is made up of neighborhod communities, which are great in that you'll likely get a park and pool. Hoggard and Topsail High Schools are great, and Ashley also has a great campus. The job market is pretty tricky here; even those with Master's degrees often struggle. You can't really go anywhere from June to August unless there is AC or water, but the ocean is absolutely beautiful. You can buy a great house for less than 250, 000 as long as you don't have your heart set on Wrightsville Beach. Great people, lots of family festivities, and a small but trendy art/music scene.

This is exactly the kind of information I have been searching for myself. Thanks for the honest and friendly post as so many seem to love to give only the negative.
