Look, we all know they're pushing for 4 Super Conferences. That's another reason why they just kept it at 4... for now.
And I think it's all but certian they'll be the SEC, Big XII (16), Pac 16, and B1G (16).
As for the Big East, C-USA, ACC, MWC, MAC, and Sub Belt, who knows? The WAC could be officially dead by the time this happens.
If the playoff doesnt go by conference champions... then I wouldnt be so sure things will go to the 4 super conferences as you have it laid out. That will be the key.
Because the super conferences were being created to get away from the BCS and possibly the NCAA. But if the BCS is essentially dead... there may not be a need for the super conferences in the long term. Because the playoff will grow to 8 eventually. Thus making the need for only 4 conferences a mute point.
4 super conferences really isn't going to be enough plates at the table ultimately...
If it were up to me, I would give a ballot to every head coach in the FBS. Have every coach pick 4 teams. But the coaches are not allowed to vote for any teams in their own conference. Take the 4 teams that got the most votes, but no more than 2 teams from any conference.
Or you could have the FCS coaches vote instead of the FBS coaches. That might create even less favoritism.

Seen too many illogical coaches' picks over the years...
Where I think the conference championship could come into play is as part of a tiebreaker system if you have two one-loss teams vying for a playoff spot, for example, although even then I think the scenario where that would happen would be pretty unlikely---an undefeated team stumbling in the conference championship game, or I guess a team whose only
loss was to the undefeated conference champion. Then again, we had the second case this past season and have had the first scenario in the past.
The media has far too big of an influence when it comes to voters.
The next big fight is going to be who gets to host the title game.
Well there will be a rotation of 6 places... which was gonna happen anyway.
