I was expecting the Buffs to lose worse than they did to Fresno State.
Fresno State showed a lot of class by turning off the jets in the 2nd half. They could have easily hung 100 on the board in that game. What is encouraging is to see that John Embree has not lost this team and was able to lead them back to a win this week on the road. Of course, the hardest games are still ahead, so the Buffs are not even close to being out of the woods, but it does give me hope that he can build this program. Lots of underclassmen on the team. This may be a good team in a couple years. We'll see.
The CU Buffs have been a piece of garbage for a pretty long time imo, but they can pull one out from time to time against the best of them. The best of the Big 12 anyway. We'll see if they can at least play spoiler in the 6th South.
Another heartbreaker for this fan of Wazzu for over 40 years. Just another in a long series of knives to the heart.
On the plus side, the Cougs have something to look forward to with their young quarterback. He's going to be a good'un, another in the long string of quality quarterbacks on the Palouse. And with Leach there (for at least one season), the Cougs will return to their long-standing tradition of being able to score 50 on anyone in the country...
...and give up 55. In the last quarter. On the last possession. In the most unusual way possible.
If you're a Coug fan, you're a for real fan. No one can ever accuse you of jumping on the bandwagon or being a fair-weather fan, like sooo many at sooo many other places.
I watched the second half of that game yesterday. What a shocker in the 4th...whoa! I'm a Texas Tech alumnus and fan so I was rooting for the Cougars since Mike Leach is there now. Leach is a great offensive coach but we had mediocre defenses for the first several years when he was at Texas Tech. As a result, we always lost a few games every year that we shouldn't have lost. Leach finally hired a good defensive coordinator and Tech ended up going 11-1 in the Big 12 in 2008. If Leach can do something similar to that at Washington State they should improve.
