There is no in state tuition in DC; all schools are private. Plus I really want to live out on the West Coast.
You are forgetting the University of the District of Columbia. UDC is public, with a MBA that is neither on the west coast or nearly as good as UCB/UCLA/or Stanford.
You can't go wrong with any of those three, but to further you thoughts, what about Michigan? Great MBA + very good school of public health. Johns Hopkins? Great MPH + decent MBA.
Really, your 3 choices are great. Your asking if you should go to the best, the 7th best, or the 14th best business school in the country...
If I were to find any faults:
Bay > LA
There are no cheaper places to live anywhere close to Palo Alto
There are very, very few safe cheap places to live close to Berkeley
Really? Stanford is the number 1 ranked school in the US. I highly doubt I will get in there, but we shall see.
Hi analyze_this. I'll throw in my humble 2 cents here. IMO, your question is like asking what is the best: (1) Ferrari, (2) Lamborghini, or (3) Porsche? To the vast majority of folks out there, I'd venture to guess that they would say that all are at the very top of the line and that you really couldn't lose with any of the three. However, I would also submit that there are most likely select groups of enthusiasts out there that are die hard loyalists to each of the three and could probably come up with 101 reasons why one or the other is clearly superior.
Now, if I were in the market for an exotic sports car, I suppose I could spend hours and hours researching, poring over and analyzing all the performance specs and data, etc, etc...at the end of the day, none of this will amount to a hill of beans unless I get on over to a dealer and personally test drive each and every one of these.
This is a big investment. I think you need to visit each one of these schools and take a good, hard look under the hood. See which school is best suited to get to where you want to go, in the manner in which you want to get there. Pursuing an MBA/MPH at these schools doesn't strike me as something you come up with after a night of doing tequila shots. If these schools/programs are on your radar, I'm thinking you've got a pretty good idea of where you want to end up and most likely, the hardcore smarts and acumen to get there.
Good luck in your pursuits. I envy you.
