I'm just going off what she told me. I am not sure exactly what she did, I want to say she handled contracts/bidding. It was a small, yet successful company, and she was sent out-of-town for up to a month at a time. Around the same time, I worked for a small fencing company. Outside of the two owners, there were perhaps 8 employees tops at any given point in time and a handful of sub-contractors. The business did near $7M a year, so I do not think it would be too far of a stretch for her brother's company to make enough to have paid her $50K. All I know for sure is that she did not like the job much and only stuck around for as long as she because the money was good.

Well probably because it was a family business. I know my brother, were he in the position to do so, would pay me as much as he could afford if he were a business owner. Otherwise a receptionist (here) is lucky to make half that yearly.

Industrial and organizational psychology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The people I know do a variety of things. Some of them work for large companies helping ensure hiring processes and decisions are legally defensible or doing workforce analytics.

Some of them work for consulting firms and help organizations implement new training systems, hiring systems.

Some of them work for more traditional consulting firms (think big 4) in their human capital arms helping improve work place performance, etc.

And some, work as applied researchers for govt. agencies and universities.

I know quite a few people with liberal arts degrees who work in IT (high tech).
Several real estate agents I knew have liberal arts degrees. It really runs the gamut.

You will have an overabundance of LA grads applying for the book publishing magazine publishing, advertising etc... Those who are unable to get the job will proably be working minimum wage somewhere whilst continually plugging away to get the "real" job

Woman with an A.A. in History/BA in History/Masters in Library Science. Works as an archivist for one of the New England states. She is a new hire (around two months), and I believe earns $48K or so.

Woman with BA in Art/Masters in Art (yup, simply "Art", not an MFA). She bounced around low paying jobs ($10/hr., give or take), for many years. I have not spoken to her in almost ten years. Last I heard she was working in the social services.

Man with BA in Philosophy. Currently finishing up a Masters in GIS.
50K salary in Boston is really tough. A 1BR apartment typically asks for $1200+ even in the burbs. But I guess it is fine for a frugal woman.
