First off the OP opened this thread 8 months ago and hasn't been involved in the more recent discussion.

As for "obviously IB" increasing GPA, there is nothing "obvious" about it all. It all depends on how or if the school in question weights classes and the relative weighting of IB and AP. There are also schools that only offer IB for the last 2 years of high school and still offer the IB certificate. The student taking AP classes beginning as a sophomore may have a higher weighted GPA when all is said and done.

I would also take issue with IB being "definitely more challenging" than AP, again not always true and highly variable from school to school...

Unless the IB school is within a school, scores are typically relative.

Relative to what??

IB is a 2 year program in the US so of course it is "school within a school" and many, many people feel AP is superior to IB
