I can understand not digging yourself into a deep hole by paying loans with loans.
When it comes to housing don't a lot of students pay for dormitories and/ or student apartments with Financial aid, Subsidized/Unsubsidzed loans ? Is that a bad thing to do ?
I remember filing out for the latter loans and they made sure you read, read and read about paying back loans and what was expected of you. The website calculated if you could really even do it, paying back your loans, based on your major and job outlook.

My daughter recently graduated from college. And, yes many/some of her classmates used student loans to pay for housing. But, the costs were probably much less than paying a mortgage and property taxes. My daughter's rent ranged from $300 to $550 per month (in a fairly large city). The OP didn't say what her mortgage costs were but I suspect that they are much higher than that.
I recently lost my job and I really want to go back to school at a community college. If I take out school loans will they help pay your living expenses?
The rent from roommates could help with your house payment.
You could also consider renting out your house and living in a van or other very cheap arrangement.
Let's see... my father had 2 kids at 20, worked full time and went to college at night.
Why can't you work during the day and go to school part time at a local college ?
.... and sell the house. Get a cheap apartment.
Sounds like me I finished all three of my degrees while working full time and raising a family.
