Black students are half as likely to get into Cambridge University than white candidates, according to figures.

Just 14 per cent of the 202 hopefuls from black and dual heritage backgrounds were admitted in 2008.

I wonder why? I know that the economy's getting rough, but unless they are broke and can't get any FA, I don't see why they are getting even more selective. Unless the university is boring as hell and its atmosphere being a rural area would bore anybody, then why would anybody go to it?

Maybe they just werent good enough for them.

It doesnt matter what color your skin is. If your not viewed as good enough in the university's eyes your not good enough. Its not racism. Its just, "You're not good enough. You're not getting in!"

If it were 0% then maybe you could make a case for racism.

Naive much?

Im not saying it is racism but for you to immediately dismiss is it makes no sense.

The majority of blacks in england are immigrants. Of course they are struggling to get into the top university. It's not a race thing it is an inability to adapt to a new education system and thrive to make to a the top schools.

Good gawd come on what a lame thread. Everyone knows Universities love nothing more than to take in 'so called minorities'... they are the epitome of liberalism and diversity.

Grades are the issue, nothing more.

Yes, it only takes good grades to get into great schools.

Having mommy or daddy donate a building or two usually has a bigger effect.

What if it was 1%. Still not a big deal?

Just curious.

I might have overlooked it, but I didn't see anything in the article that mentions the GPA and SAT/ACT scores of the applicants. Maybe the 31% of the white students that were accepted had better scores than the 86% of black students that weren't.
