I am moving to the Spings in a few weeks from Florida. I don't want to be around a bunch of college kids, or too many young children either. Safe of course, and quiet, with great mountain views. I've been looking around online but I really would like some advice as to parts of town, etc. and if anyone has any knowledge of specific apartment/condo communities that would be great!

Anything between Garden of the Gods and Filmore around Centennial Blvd. would be a great area.

Check out:

- Grand Centennial Apartments (5225 Zachary Grove)
- The Oasis Apartments (1495 Farnham Point)

I have never lived in these. But they are in an excellent area and are within two miles from I25 for easy access around town. The west side of the Springs is very nice and safe.

I would like to be close to the mountains....Garden of the Gods (I would probably end up there with my dog a lot knowing me esp if it's close) etc. I hear that's a good area? I have family on Shriever AFB which I know is out east which stinks. My office is on Elkton Dr. Thanks so much!

If you want to be over there and looking at a map work is close to - anywhere in the 80919 zip code will be really nice area and near GOG and ute valley park. my friends live over there and love it - sometimes you get a bit more snow that other places, but usually not a big deal.

I second the grand centennial depending on what you want to spend.

Oh ok thanks! I looked at Oasis online and really liked it but it's a little more pricier, although I liked grand centennial, too. I think I will really like it out there...and snow doesn't bother me... I just wish Shriever was closer but oh well...not that bad I suppose...

I'm a sales rep so I like that it's right off the highway.

Elkton Dr. you say? My older bro's company is located there too.

Anyhow, I live in Windtree Apartments (http://www.weidner.com/windtree/Index.asp - broken link) and what started out as a 3-6 month adventure is turning out a bit longer till I find a house in my price range that "speaks to me" (moved in the beginning of June). I like it here for what it is, apartments.

Relatively quiet (apartments are apartments but I feel safe here), they try to keep the pool open year round, it backs up to the park at the East Library so the few kids that do live here are there instead of being bratty (uh sorry, rambunctious ) on complex grounds...I think there are fewer kids because it's not close to any schools per se.

They aren't super but for the price I am pleased thus far. It also helps that they allow pets - I have a cat and a dog.

For the most part, it's not a barkey (is that a word)? place but my dog isn't one to bark hardly at all and most of the people have little dogs but there are a few with big ones...heck there's a Great Dane and St. Bernard in a building down from me.

The major drawback I have found is the parking for guests really sucks. You only get one covered parking spot but an apartment with similar pricing and similar neighborhood (with more kids) I looked at (Woodmen and Union) lacked a covered spot.

Since I was in a rush to find a place and expecting only to be in an apartment for three months, I ended up on a ground floor and lucked out because my neighbor upstairs is pretty quiet. Besides, walking a dog several times a day is much better on the ground floor.

I wont glorify this place but coming from living in the same house for 11 years in a very quiet and secluded neighborhood (corner lot, 2 car garage, etc...) I am quite surprised. Most units have laundry rooms, which is a huge plus in my book. There is concrete between units so I rarely hear the people on either side of me.

You pay water, gas and electric and so far since I haven't used A/C (I haven't had the ability to use it since Aug 1998 so it doesn't bother me).

The girls at the leasing office (Lisa, Pam and Ashley) are pretty nice and maintanence isn't spectactular but not bad (they have one thing I have been waiting on for a couple of weeks - washer knob for the water temp is messed up) but I like Dustin and Jesus.

Oh and it's a quick trip to most anything on the north end of town. One of the biggest drawbacks to this end of town in general now is that they just started a major road project at Woodmen and Academy but with my location, to get to I-25 I know the round about way to get there to avoid that mess.

So there's my short/long essay on Windtree Apartments. They aren't luxury, some units do have fireplaces, it's close to shopping, easy access (relatively speaking) to the interstate, quiet, safe and not bad for the price.

Thank you 3Cherrys and COFlower for all the input - very helpful. COFlower thanks for the detailed report! I will def check that out. It's nice to know these things about the area and the complexes ahead of time. I def prefer somewhere that doesn't have a lot of college kids, or bratty young kids running around, and that is quiet.

I'll have to let you know what I decide. I'll be heading out there the week of the 18th (the drive is gonna be rough... ugh...)
