They were talking about closing Ft. Carson way back in 92 when I was stationed at Peterson. I think closing Ft. Carson would be the biggest factor for Co Springs. I don't have the exact numbers, but there are more soldiers on Carson than Airmen on Peterson, Shriever and the Academy combined.

I think with Carson expanding and the thousands of troops coming from Ft. Hood, I don't think we have to worry about it too much.

The Academy's not going anywhere. West Point and the Naval Academy have been in the same spots for 100yrs.

And the space sector of the DoD is largely headquartered from Peterson. Nothern Command (Military branch of Homeland Defense) is also there.

But yes, to Eric's original question, if they closed Carson, it would be a huge impact and yes there are lots of Air Force folks up and down Powers and Academy, but more so, there are bunches and bunches of us retirees (AF, Army, and Navy).
