Congratulations, CO. You are on your way to being just like CA.

I am really glad these three lost BIG. I hope its sends a message to the out of state financial supports of such efforts that Colorado may no longer be the place to spend their resources and efforts.

I am pleased with the result for a number of reasons, but mostly because I believe in representative government, not proposition government. But I also think that the fact that such measures made it to the ballot and got about a quarter of the vote ought to be a reminder to those we elect that they need to be more responsible with their financial decisions.

Actually if they'd passed it would have been more like CA which has prop. 13 and requires a 2/3 vote to raise taxes. I do find it amusing to hear folks from who think CO has just recently gone liberal. CO has elected plenty of lefties. Do people not remember Gary Hart?

Wink Well . . .

"Opponents raised more than $6.8 million to fight the three measures, while proponents raised about $33,000."
- 'The Denver Post'[1]

Well, as you surely know, all three propositions were handily defeated. I remain unsure of the merits of these measures, if that now academic. But would note (see quote above) that it was hardly a fair fight. Maybe these measures were unwise. But when seeing so many powers-that-be so interested in defeating something, I become suspicious.

Be that as it may, what I do know is that more than a little money is entirely wasted in Colorado. That seems the impetus in the first place, and what still must be addressed.

1) '3 tax-slashing measures headed for crushing defeat.' The Denver Post

And where is that not the case? That's a price of government that we'll always have to pay.

But let's also remember that it's no easy to decide what waste is. I bet if we randomly (and note that I say randomly) took ten budget line items in Colorado's annual budget and each had to simply decide to keep or cut those ten items, that we in this group couldn't agree that much.

Just don't cut anything that benefits me.
