Ive had that cabin dream in my minds jukebox for many years., Have purchased property in central Colorado and after many problems and almost a decade still have not got that cabin built , But the dream still lives !!! read my other post if you like.,, Search> "Chaffee county Blues"

I'm the OP - interesting memories. Now I am favoring underground building except for the passive solar south wall.

Been very happy with my passive solar. Spent $50 on propane last winter though mornings can be chilly for a bit. This area is sunny!

If you care about indoor air quality, put a vapor barrier under your floor and a venting system to exhaust the radon that accumulates there:

Precautionary measures should depend on levels of radon that one is dealing with. Or so I would think. Homes either have radon or they don't. Radon doesn't develop over time. It stems from radioactivity of uranium that may be present in rock or soil - I believe.
