Hi everyone, just have a question regarding schools in pueblo. Can I send my children anywhere? A lot of houses we are looking at are not near good schools at all, would we be able to select the school we want? Please forgive me I think that's called open enrollment but not sure. We cannot afford private school. Pueblo seems to be a little controversial but mostly a good place to raise a young family, especially in West Pueblo. Is that the general consensus? I work remotely in IT and my husband will need a job in banking.

Thank you

Yes, there is Open Enrollment - it involves an application process that takes place in the Spring of each year - after that window closes you may still be able to do it, though. The applications depend primarily on space in the schools but other factors can come into play like discipline history of the child, etc. Parents are responsible for providing transportation for children if attending schools outside their normal boundaries. To learn more, you would contact the school you want your children to go to about their procedures and timelines.

I do think Pueblo can be a nice place to raise a family. I do recommend avoiding a few neighborhoods like Bessemer.

What ages are your kids? Elementary schools that are good are Goodnight (my kids went there when we lived in D-60) Sunset Park. Academy of the Arts for Middle school, although Goodnight also has middle school as well. South and Centennial for High school. Right now we are in Pueblo West, I can give you further info if you need.
