Hey all, so can any of you guys set your AC successfully in Colorado to 64 - 66 without any issues to your AC unit? esp at night? had an HVAC guy come look at my AC and he mentioned its too cold for this elevation and your pipes start freezing. he also mentioned even 68 degrees is too cold for colorado since my AC is not really cooling the house like it used to. it takes a while

64 is too cold it would freeze up but i kerp my house at 71 in the day and 69 at night with no issues. And pueblo gets up to 108 at the hottest.

I set my house at whatever the 3 AM outside temperature is when I get up. I just open the windows and turn on the whole house fan. It commonly is 58-63 degrees at that hour.

My window air unit is set as cold as I can get it and it won't cool my bedroom below 71. It's 90 here at 10pm and over 100 every single day since June 1. Miserable summer heat.

Sorry but you are asking the wrong question. It is not about the Colorado heat, or the heat anywhere else. You can keep a house at 60 degrees if you want to even in Phoenix. It all depends on how big your air conditioner is. The higher the BTUs the cooler it will keep your house, and the less energy it will take to do it. One issue in Colorado is you often find houses with too small of air conditioners. 2000 sq feet houses are being built with air conditioners meant for 1500 sq ft houses. Also a lot of the house poor crowd replaces their old ones with the cheapest replacement. The smaller ones are cheaper, and will work for many people who are happy keeping their house 15-20 degrees cooler than outside, but it works the air conditioner harder and takes longer to cool off the house. if you try 25 degrees than you will keep it running long enough to freeze it up. If you cannot afford to replace your air conditioner than you may want to get one of those portable units and use that in the rooms that you need to keep cooler, and let the other parts of the house stay at a higher temp.

Yep, I flip on the house fan early in the morning, then turn it off and close all windows and most blinds about 7:00. This keeps my house usually below 68-70.
