Will we see any of the solar eclipse that is happening August 21 this year in Colorado / Denver?

We are "sort of" close..

We will not be in the path of the full eclipse. From the map your link gave it appears that Nebraska would be the nearest state to see the full eclipse from - possibly Wyoming. You can see the path of the total eclipse going north and east of Colorado in the image below.

If you want to see it you need to travel to Wyoming or Nebraska if staying nearby. However, when we booked our lodgings for the eclipse back in December, we found everything inside the path from camping to hotels already booked - we eventually found something in Nebraska relatively close after finding nothing in Wyoming. FYI.

I plan on driving north on 25 for about 3 hours, and make a day trip out of it.

I expect traffic, etc., to be insane since this is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing.....

Durn tooting! I can see it now - one vast sea of gridlock all along the Front Range from Pueblo to Cheyenne as anxious would-be gawkers try to drive on the shoulders and over medians. The sky becomes darker and darker as the metal beasts below rumble in frustrated anger... And THEN! Colorado voters agree to a .0005 cent/gal tax on gas so we can finally IMPROVE OUR ROADS!

They are expecting 500,000 visitors to Wyoming. It's going to be a CRAZY zoo. We booked our hotel room in Worland Wyoming about a year ago and will drive up the day before. Traffic is going to be horrendous, but what the heck. It's a once-in-a-lifetime event.

Coming CLOSE to seeing a total solar eclipse, is like having five of the six winning numbers in the lottery. It's just one very big disappointment. To get the full effect of the total eclipse, you have to be as close to the centerline as possible. If I was you I would drive north to Casper Wyoming. That will put you right on the centerline. I would probably try and watch it from a good view point on Casper Mountain. From there you might even be able to see the shadow of the eclipse move across the landscape. This is a once (or maybe twice) in a lifetime event. You don't want too just come close to seeing it.

Casper is where most of the international tour groups are going. So just don't plan on getting a hotel room the night before. Leave early in the morning, so you get there in plenty of time, and expect traffic to be bad.

To put that in perspective, Burning Man gets about 70,000 visitors, and look what that is like.

Out of curiosity, a few months ago, I checked a Hampton Inn in Casper, WY, for rates during the eclipse and it was $790. For a Hampton Inn. In Casper, WY.

Not looking forward to it, but we are staying in Fort Collins (going to turn it into a college visit for my daughter) and driving up to Casper.
