I'm telling you, that Martinez Cafe is nothing like it was when it was on Sante Fe. What do you like from the place?

Martinez Cafe is the epitome of Pueblo mom n pops... they open and close when they darn well please.

This place has the best chicken tacos on white I've ever had. The prices are among the best in town. They have this Mexican style potato called "Papas (??)" that looks so good and I'll try it soon. The green chile has generous portions of pork and is slightly thinner than some of those stew type green chile that you'll find in these parts. I guess they hold the recent awards on green chile and perhaps red chili... perhaps taking that distinction away from Romero's.

This place is east on Mesa over the I-25 bridge and further east of Santa Fe by Bohmen on the north side of the street. It's the quaintest little neighborhood and looks like a place that's rarely crowded. It's a real cool neighborhood looking place.

Great looking place and very friendly family-owned looking establishment.

Is it true that Grand Prix closed? Used to frequent this place with my family while I was growing up and if it's true that they closed I'll be really sad.

I don't get over there any more. That's over on Mesa east of the Do Drop and near Bohman, a block north of Northern. It also has a bar and perhaps dancing. A neat little old bldg and local neighborhood type place.

I could ask my friend Mitch who lives near there about it.

If it's closed, folks around that area would be able to go eat at that Street Tacos place over on Santa Fe and Northern.

I'm not so keen on their Green Chile anymore. The way they cook the pork they use now ain't right. Having gobs of fat in the meat is one thing, but not rendering it down at all is just gross.

It screams cheap cheap cheap to me. They've gone to the worst cut on the pig now it seems. The pork would be good if it had a little more meat in it and way less fat.

For chiles, they just use jalapeños. Not a bad taste to them, but rip your face off hot. Why not mix in some local Pueblo Mira Sols? These folks are not local and they don't give a flip.

Go to Taco Stop some time and get anything with their chorizo. They have three locations now, a local chain, if you will.

One on 4th and about Fountain, across the street from Double Js meats, where they get their chorizo, Abriendo and about Jackson?, and one on Hwy 50 and Baltimore.

I'd heard that Rojas has Taco Mondays too. Dollar Tacos or something like that.

Rojas has Taco Tuesday, not Monday. It's dine in only, and it's $1.25 per taco.

So after exhausting all options for mexican food in Colorado Springs I turn my gaze southward to the wild untamed city of Pueblo. Does anyone have good recommendations for Mexican food in the area?
