West cola has a lot of potential but it'll take a few years . State street has a pretty high vacancy rate and parking lot behind new Brookland, 116 and terra needs to be redone

The last three or so spaces on the block with New Brookland Tavern going toward Cayce are being refurbished with new windows and all.

State street isn't exactly West Columbia, more like West Vista

State Street is definitely in West Columbia. It's old downtown Brookland.

Take a look at a map sometime. West Columbia is quite large with the Brookland area kind of being in one corner and Route 1 almost at one edge of it. Lexington Hospital (County Medical Center) is in West Columbia.

Granted the Gervais St, Bridge has always been considered the front door to West Columbia, but it is also in the Brookland corner.

Stone River is renovating the old New Orleans building and is looking good. A developer is interested in building something in what's now being called "the hole" off of Meeting Street near the Gervais Street Bridge.

Stone River will also be a restaurant with a 1,200-square-foot deck overlooking the river. The owners are looking to be a part of all that's going on downtown. As the urban planner from San Francisco said recently at the Urban Land Institute's conference in Columbia, the river should be thought of as being in the middle of a region, not as a boundary on the edge of the city.
