I don't think you understand what I am seeing. SC right now has passed NC for the 3rd fastest growing state now. People are moving in here fast and not just Charleston or Greenville but also Columbia and the amount of growth that I am seeing happening in Columbia is beyond what people think is happening. We're about to look and feel completely different by the end of this decade.
And yet Atlanta's metro has more people than the entire state of SC. Nowhere in SC is turning into Atlanta in the foreseeable future.
Good News.... what struck me was last line of the article... Red Bank has reached 48k people! I need to take a drive over there.. I havent been out that way in awhile.. I sure a lot has changed.
Just think if they incorporate. Watch out, Sumter. Towns and cities these days, I tell ya.

You arent kidding.. Some suburbs "towns" are becoming some of the largest cities in SC.. North Charleston and Mt. Pleasant come to mind. If Red Bank incorporates it will be the largest town by far in the County. SC towns dont often incorporate.. but in the midlands.. IF a place was to incorporate.. Red Bank would be my bet. Aside from being the largest town, which could give them some political clout. They also could control growth within their boundaries. I also believe it would allow them to collect some state and federal money that they could then direct as they see fit as opposed to having to rely on solely on the powers that be with the County to selected what needs to be done in that area. Again, not saying it will happen but Lexington has more municipalities then any other County in Midlands and the more substantial ones are between 10k and 30k...so...
Interestingly enough.. I dont know what they are considering to be "Red Bank". To the extent wikipedia is correct.....it only has just over 11k so maybe the area they are considering is the postal code.
Interesting link that I found in the above article on motel conversions. Lexington seems to want to promote "slow growth"/ anti sprawl and I can understand why to some extent..... I suspect Richland County is just the opposite.
The densification of the state street enclave continues, a new apartment building will replace the strip mall across from the chicken plant to the building that currently has Abe’s books. It’s technically not public yet but all neighboring businesses have been chattering bout it.
Wow, that's nearly three times the size of the Brookland complex catty corner across Meeting Street. I imagine it won't be as dense as Brookland (it doesn't have to be), but even if it's slightly more suburban with surface parking, that's going to be a very big complex.

Actually it does have to be. The denser the better. More people less car parking the local businesses there will reap the benefits greatly from more densification. I saw MORE MORE MORE! Let this trend continue and I really hope soon we can start getting more of this on the Columbia side too.
