My husband and I are also thinking of a move to the general area. He is interviewing for a teaching job at Anderson School dist. 5 How far is Columbia area from Anderson? Which is the better place to live? We have 5 kids so schools are important. We would want to buy a home preferably under 200,000. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Way too far to consider living in Columbia! It's about 2 hours to Anderson from here, consider the Greenville area/forum on here as a place to explore living if you want a bigger city in SC than Anderson is.

Well lucky for us, the moving company will be doing all the lifting and hauling.....
I am curious to know, are there any great places to meet people? Do you have a newspaper (or something like it) that lets you know what is going on in the area? (shows, dinner, dancing, concerts...etc)

i'd say look for a place in cayce closer to the river in the avenues. The parts of the avenues by the railroad tracks are shadier but u kind find some decent houses between 12th street and the congaree river. you will be about 7 to 13 min from the airport and close enough to columbia's downtown to enjoy the night life... one caveat is that never speed in cayce the cops are always on the lookout to pull people over for speeding there
