When I think of urban areas, I don't really think of skylines--especially not for a single-use area like a medical district.

This is why Columbus and Savannah are the best urban cities in GA.

Fair enough..... The Medical District still feels urban especially for being located outside of the CBD.. The buildings are very close together, and there's plenty of daily foot traffic...

Savannah may be the most urban in the core, but Augusta's urban population is still the largest... Neither the core or the metro area of Columbus is more urban than Augusta...

Augusta 386,787
Savannah 260,677
Columbus 253,602

Sorry, but Columbus doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Savannah as far as urbanity goes. Columbus and Augusta are certainly more comparable here; Savannah is in a league all by itself and Atlanta is another sort of beast altogether.

Oh come on man...the area is strictly utilitarian and is quite different from a historic district or entertainment district. Aside from employees, the only reason you'd have to go there is because you're sick--not exactly a pleasant experience. For all intents and purposes, as far as a comparison with Columbus goes, stick with Broad Street/CBD, surrounding historic neighborhoods (e.g., Old Towne), and the Riverwalk.

Wrong stats. Nortonguy was citing urbanized area population statistics which is a measure of population density at a certain threshold that crosses city, county, and state boundaries. That's not the same as county population.

Well Paine College is across the street, and several businesses(retail, hotels, restaurants, banks, etc) are located in the MD... They're building a Walmart neighborhood market/other businesses, and GHSU related buildings on 15th street...

Things will probably change once the merger between it and ASU is complete, but as of now, it's just a district that largely serves employees and patients. It's not a place where tourists or residents are going to stroll to get a feel for Augusta. It's completely different. Just like in Charleston, tourists aren't up in the MUSC area strolling around although it's still technically downtown in an urban location. Completely different vibe and function than traditional urban areas.
