A South Korean company that makes floor mats and cargo trays for Kia, Hyundai and General Motors has chosen Columbus for its first U.S. plant, creating 65 jobs and investing $3 million in its facility.

AFS America LLC, a subsidiary of NVH Korea Co. Ltd., said today it will open a production facility and warehouse in Corporate Ridge Business Park in east Columbus. The timeline calls for manufacturing to begin by the fourth quarter of this year, with operations ramping up into 2013.

The company is a supplier for Hyundai Mobis, a major Kia supplier located adjacent to the main Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia assembly plant in West Point, Ga. It also delivers parts to the Hyundai Motors Manufacturing Alabama factory near Montgomery, Ala.

Great addition to the city. Wish they would have located in the new technology park though. Good news for Columbus.

Columbus must be the central location. Between Montgomery and West Point.

It fits perfect for that. Hopefully more will follow. I have high hopes for the Muscogee County Technology Park. They are finishing up the 4-lane highway right now.

That's where I work (NCR). I'm so ready for that highway to be finished and those lights working. It's a bear turning left out of there in the afternoon trying to get on 80. I don't see any current signs of anyone breaking ground to build more facilities though.

How much longer does it look until the highway is finished?

Well, they've hung the lights, and they're paving the road - my hope is within a few weeks.

But wait - are you talking about Technology Parkway expanding from where it dead ends currently in the park? No signs right now of anything being done there. They are working on making the road into the park from 80 (JR Allen Parkway) 4 lanes - that's the part I'm referring to.
