A Columbus businessman and his son have purchased a Historic District property and plan to open a restaurant before the end of the summer.

Mike Milligan, a partner in JTM, a family business that owns 19 area Piggly Wiggly stores, and his son, Tommy, have purchased 222 Seventh Street. They are working to open a restaurant they will call Christopher’s, a play on the city of Columbus’ name.

“We pretty much got the concept nailed down,” Tommy Milligan said. “It will be elevated Southern food with a French background. Plus, we want it to be a light kind of atmosphere. So if there is something I find that is delicious and makes no sense, I am still going to put it on the menu.”

The plan is to have the restaurant open sometime in August, depending on when the various licenses to sell alcohol can be obtained, Tommy Milligan said.

It will serve lunch and dinner and possibly a Sunday brunch.

A new non-chain restaurant! Nice! Looking forward to checking it out.

That sounds great. They would need to really advertise as from looking at that spot on Google Earth it looks like it's in the residential historic area away from the foot traffic of downtown.

I know exactly where that is. One of the houses we wanted to look at (had been beautifully refurbed) was right below that. One realtor told us it was a "bad" part of town... just below the house there were other very run-down houses and government-looking apartment housing.

One of the houses you wanted to look at? I don't think anyone would want to live in a small one room restaurant.

What I meant is that a house we wanted to look at was just down the street a short distance from that restaurant. Being from out of town we found the house on one of the online realtor sites. We didn't know anything about the area. On our last trip there a couple weeks ago we drove past it.
