I am a bit stumped on how to fix this if it can be fixed. My husband has a Gateway M-6750 piece of garbage laptop. I am feeling a bit annoyed because I told him not to buy this piece of junk a few years ago and he did not listen. From day one this thing was a dog. He used it for a semester in college and it has been sitting in the bag for a couple of years so it is hardly used. It looks brand new. Not even a scratch. So he decides to finally use it again and notices that the keys W, S, and X no longer work. Everything else on the keyboard does. I tried to find the answer on line but all I find is tons of complaints on the motherboards blowing on this particular model (wonderful).
Is the keyboard not working properly a software issue or a hardware issue? I just can't believe this barely used laptop has a messed up keyboard!
Here are the specs. IF this computer should need a repair at a shop, is it even worth it? I have been a mac user for a while now and kind of lost on PC's now.
Narfcake nailed it. Anytime it is a row like that going down, it is a failed keyboard. No way to fix that, it needs replaced.
(The left ALT key probably doesn't work either)
I believe that's why I never got a laptop because over the years I would see the problems my wife and kids have with like: sticking keys and that power supply plug seems to always mess up. Even to where the new power supply we bought for my wife didn't work because some crazy was the pin got pushed up in there. I also bought MAC last year, and I love it since I produce music and do website design. I still have a Desktop PC right next to i though because I have been a Windows user since about '93. I mostly use my pc now just for IRCN/MIRC and VMware, and gaming.

Thanks Narfcake and Peregrine. I guess I will look into replacing the keyboard. Meh.. and you are right the left ALT key doesn't work either. How strange these keys just broke. They press down fine but nothing.
ha ha! Don't feel too bad for him. He admitted after the first week he thought the thing was a piece of crap. He liked it cuz it was red. Thanks all I will order a new keyboard for it. See how long it lasts after that.
