I have a 2009 Sony Vaio FW-290 Laptop. A few months ago, the laptop started making this muted high pitched sound which kinda hurts your ears. It's like having dog hearing and sometimes that goes away and it is replaced with a constant low hissing sound. When I move the screen back and forth or if I apply pressure pushing it down, sometimes the sounds stop but only for a second and comes back. My hard drive is fine and the fans are fine. I keep the laptop well vented and cleaned.
Anyone have any idea how to stop this or do I need to replace the display screen?
Does the laptop have a microphone? If so, go into the Sound options in the Control Panel and try disabling it. You may be getting feedback. For that matter, even if it doesn't have a microphone try disabling the speakers and/or muting the sound just to eliminate it.
I was on Sony chat and they suggested I bring the laptop in for service.
I did an online search and it seems this hissing is common.
