Sometimes Norton users get an error called 3048,3. I got it once a few weeks ago but ignored it.
I just got the error message again. This time it tried to fix itself and failed.
It was about 20 minutes after manual updating.
Norton advised me to download the Intelligent Updater which is 197M and took about 20 minutes. I ran it, and it said it was successful. But a few minutes later, the 3048 error box appeared again.
I followed further Norton advice and downloaded Norton Power Eraser which is very small, and ran it. It restarted the whole computer and scanned for about 5-10 minutes. I forgot what it said exactly, except that it found nothing.
I did research and this error message is just a broad way of saying something is wrong with the updates. It shouldn't be like this, and the fixes should be automatic.
My computer seems to be okay now.
Does anyone know anything more specific about what the problem is?
I tried too to run the autofix, and it didn't work. I think that Norton had some problems with the new updates it released. Did you try to uninstall your Norton Product and install it again, if it's reinstallable? (Meaning for 2 or 3 computers)
Norton Error "3048,3", If you see this error in your Norton product
This error(Norton Error 3048,3) could be fixed by updating your Norton product to latest update. You can download, Install the latest update from Norton Intelligent Updater , Here's the reference link to fix this issue -https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v63747322_EndUserProfile_en_us
I googled the error code and it's a known bug with Norton. There are fixes out there for it, mine has gone away without doing anything so the updates probably took care of it.
There are many antivirus programs available today. AVG and Norton are the most popular.
The reason why many people have Norton, it was one of the pre installed programs that came with the computer. It's free for a period of time, the Pop-ups appear scaring people into buying the paid version. They must be paying a pretty penny to Microsoft for this type of Marketing.
The reason why AVG is so popular is it's performance. They offer the best free version, which is perfect for internet protection. The Pro Version is good if you do online banking, or open email attachments. Switching over to AVG you can see the difference in the operating speed, it's astounding because Norton is a huge resource hog.
As a technician remotely connecting with 50+ computers per month. Hear many complaints about Norton. When deleting - many extra steps need to be taken, because using the Add/Remove feature Norton remains in your system and re-installs itself.
Do you self a favor and delete Norton, most of you problems will be solved....
I got the "3048" again this morning so I followed the steps and upgraded from Norton IS 19 to 21. It took about 20-30 minutes. It put some new icons on the desktop (which I removed) and changed the system tray icon. That error appeared about 4 times in the past half a year.
If you remove Norton you're supposed to use Uninstall Norton in the Start menu > Programs.
You shouldn't use Control Panel > Programs to remove Norton, though I've never done it either way.
