As to the Y-cable its best to plug both in since one is primary for data and the other is primary for power.

If you have administrative privileges on the computer you will be connecting the hard drive to, you can take ownership of the privileged folders to gain access.

NFN but I know her system drive and all subdirectories are shared R/W after working on her laptop for the last 2.5 years.....

The statement was a general FYI. Why from this thread would I know any of this since there is no past history listed in this thread?
