Also before taking it all apart, make sure if you use a login password that its deleted or you will have problems getting into the data stored in " My........" (documents, photos, etc).


As to the Y-cable its best to plug both in since one is primary for data and the other is primary for power.

If you have administrative privileges on the computer you will be connecting the hard drive to, you can take ownership of the privileged folders to gain access.

If the OP knows how. Why don't you complete your post by giving instructions in a "just in a case" scenario?

Do you even know what OS I'll be mounting the external drive to?

NFN but I know her system drive and all subdirectories are shared R/W after working on her laptop for the last 2.5 years.....

The statement was a general FYI. Why from this thread would I know any of this since there is no past history listed in this thread? You asked for help, I gave you the correct response for your question and you're welcome. I offered a further suggestion and you respond with this comment. There was NO reason for such a NASTY response.
