I have a HP Pavilion with Win 8. The Norton that came pre-installed on the laptop has expired. Should I renew it? Or should should I go for a better/more affordable alternative? If that latter, what would you suggest?

Thank you.

First check to see if your ISP provides you with a subscription to antivirus. Xfinity, for example, includes Norton.

Verizon has the Verizon Internet Security Suite (VISS), unless I'm incorrect.

You should get AVG or Avast, which are free downloads and as good, or better than, anything else. And Malwarebytes too, which does different things. Also free.

I used Norton when first got computer for while just to see. No problems at all. But I already had subscription for AVG so switched when 3 months was up. Norton was fine and none of the old claimed problems at all.

We have Norton's on everything. I wouldn't use anything else.

I hate Norrton, it makes computer slow. I use and recommend Malware and I would uninstall all others.

install avast along with webroot secureanywhere

they both are lightweight and work without any conflict

its the setup i always use

never like using those bloated pkgs like norton/mcafee

they also seem to take up alot of ystem resources

I get Norton free with Infinity and I won't use it. Norton is a resource hog. I use AVG or Avast along with Malwarebytes and the only problem I've ever had was with some ransomware but that bit of nastiness would have gotten past Norton as well.

This. Norton is by far the best antivirus program I ever used. I used MacAfee for several years until it hijacked my browser and kept forcing me to use Yahoo repeatedly. I kept resetting it back to Google, then a couple of days later, it would go right back to Yahoo. I finally got disgusted with it, uninstalled it, and installed Norton. It's never given me a problem and has successfully blocked a few Trojans and spyware. Also, beware of free antivirus programs, especially Avast. They will repeatedly harass you to upgrade and hit you with all sorts of ads. It's not worth the trouble, IMO.
